A different kind of knowing

Your nature is more than a label.

Ayurveda describes three organizing qualities—Vata, Pitta, and Kapha—that can help us notice how we move through everyday life.

All three are present in everyone. Rather than trying to fit yourself into one fixed type, use this page as an invitation to observe what feels natural, what changes with the seasons, and what supports a steadier sense of balance.

Three patterns of nature

Meet the doshas

Read slowly. You may recognize qualities from more than one pattern—and that is entirely natural.

01Air · Space

Vata

Movement, imagination, sensitivity, and change. Notice when energy feels light, quick, irregular, or expansive.

02Fire · Water

Pitta

Transformation, focus, discernment, and warmth. Notice when energy feels sharp, purposeful, intense, or driven.

03Earth · Water

Kapha

Stability, nourishment, patience, and endurance. Notice when energy feels steady, grounded, slow, or enduring.

A gentle self-observation

Notice what is true for you.

Consider your usual patterns over time—not only how you feel today. There are no right answers and nothing to score.

Keep in mind

Your present state can be shaped by season, age, environment, stress, routines, and health. Curiosity is more useful here than certainty.

01

Energy

When do you feel most alert, steady, restless, or slow?

02

Digestion

Notice appetite, comfort, timing, and how you feel after meals.

03

Sleep

Observe how easily you settle, remain asleep, and feel on waking.

04

Response

How do you tend to meet pressure, change, stimulation, and rest?

Pause and reflect

What remains consistent when life is calm—and what changes when your rhythm is interrupted?

Let understanding unfold over time.

Constitutional reflection is a starting point, not a conclusion. Explore the foundational guides and let repeated observation deepen what you understand.
